It is impossible to live without failing, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default. - JK Rowling
Welcome to Mrs. Pokorny's Space!
Welcome to my website! I am a third grade teacher at Murray Park Elementary and I am looking forward to an exciting and challenging year. Please stop back frequently to see what's happening in our classroom and to check out our favorite links and games.
About Mrs. Pokorny
I grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin (a suburb of Milwaukee) and graduated from Wauwatosa West High School ('89) (Green is Mean!) I attended Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology ('94). From there I moved to New York City where I earned my Master's Degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice ('97). Fast forward a number of years when I began working as a substitute teacher in 2006. After 3 years of subbing, I enrolled at Ripon College to earn my Wisconsin teaching certificate. In 2011-2012, I worked as a long-term substitute and as a teacher and tutor in the BRAVE program at Barlow Park. This will be my ninth year teaching in the Ripon Area School District.
I live outside of Rosendale with my husband and our 11 year-old chocolate lab, Brook, and our outside cat, Buddy. Our son, Ben, goes to college at Michigan Tech in the U.P. where he is studying Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. In my free time I love to read, bake, quilt, and spend as much time as I can outdoors. In the warmer months, my family and I enjoy camping, kayaking, and time spent on Green Lake. I am also an amateur wildlife photographer; I do sell my photographs but since I spend more money than I've earned so far, it's still just a hobby! My favorite subject to photograph is birds, especially loons. I have a wide variety of other interests including space and space travel (I hope to go to Space Camp for teachers someday,) nature and environmental science, and bird watching. If you step inside my classroom, you'll also notice that I have a soft spot for Snoopy!
